FILM NIGHT – BEDE GRIFFITHS: A HUMAN SEARCH: DISCOVERING THE DIVINE FEMININE     BOOK

Introduced by Andrew Harvey

This is an intimate first-person account of the life and beliefs of Dom Bede Griffiths, a pioneer in East-West understanding. Bede was born into the English middle class in 1905, and educated at Oxford, where he developed a close relationship with CS Lewis, one of his professors, and with whom he shared a spiritual search.

After leaving university life, Bede was drawn to the Catholic Church and eventually became a Benedictine monk. After 20 years he left England for India and founded a community that celebrated the common values of Hindu and Christian ways of life. Seekers from around the world travelled to the lush jungles of southern India to experience the unique community he founded. Bede developed a spiritual and scientific understanding that transcended all dogma.

A Human Search – Discovering The Feminine was made as Andrew Harvey interviewed Bede and contains the simple voice of a profound thinker and mentor, who – despite some opposition from those who would label him a ‘heretic’ – continues to reach out to people all over the world. A Human Search chronicles a lifelong quest for truth. Here are honest, impassioned reflections on God, nature, ritual, the Divine Feminine, the evolution of Scripture and the deeper meaning of life.

ANDREW HARVEY: RUMI AND SACRED POETRYUNFOLDING THE POETIC SOUL BOOK

Rumi has been rediscovered at a time when humanity needs to be inspired and awakened into sacred action. Why has a thirteenth century mystical poet become as popular in the twenty first century as Mozart and Shakespeare? How can we unfold the poetic nature of our own souls?

$40 per person

Jelalludin Rumi (1207-1273) led the quiet life of an Islamic teacher in the central Anatolia (modern Turkey) until the age rumi-imageof thirty-seven, when he met a wandering dervish named Shams Tabriz—through whom he encountered the Divine Presence in a way that utterly transformed him. The result of this epiphany was the greatest body of mystical poetry the world has ever seen, and the establishment of a spiritual movement that would eventually stretch from Africa to China, enduring to our own day.

Andrew Harvey is the English speaking expert on “the” sacred poet Rumi, and passionately espouses his work. Andrew is the author of The Teachings of Rumi,The Way of Passion and several other books inspired by Rumi and the Sufi path.
